London, July 4 (NationPress) Arsenal has confirmed that the club has come to a mutual agreement with Takehiro Tomiyasu to terminate his contract effective immediately.
The Japanese international defender spent the entire 2024-25 season on the bench, making only one appearance.
The 26-year-old, who arrived at Arsenal from Bologna in August 2021, made a total of 84 appearances across all competitions during his tenure.
Tomiyasu began his career at J1 League team Avispa Fukuoka before moving to Belgian club Sint-Truiden in 2018, where he won the Player of the Season award before transitioning to Italy.
A senior international since 2018, Tomiyasu has earned 42 caps for Japan, participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2022 World Cup, and aiding his team to reach the quarter-finals of the AFC Asian Cup in February 2024.
“After four unforgettable years, it’s time for me to bid farewell to this remarkable club. There’s so much I want to express, but primarily, I just want to say thank you for all the love you’ve shown me. I was truly happy to be here among my teammates, Mikel, the coaching staff, and everyone else at the club,” Tomiyasu posted on Instagram.
“From my first day at the Emirates to every moment wearing the red and white, it has been an absolute honor to represent this badge. To the supporters, thank you for your unwavering love both on and off the pitch. I will cherish it forever,” he continued.
Regrettably, injuries have hampered Tomiyasu’s playing time over the past two seasons, with the defender making just a single substitute appearance last season. Consequently, it was mutually decided to end his contract, allowing him to embark on a new chapter in his career, with reports indicating interest from the Saudi Pro League.
“To my teammates, I’m grateful for the many memories we’ve created together. I recognize how talented you are, not only as players but also as individuals. I look forward to seeing you all on the pitch soon. It’s time for a new chapter, but I will always be proud to have been a Gunner. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner. ARIGATO and best wishes to you all, Tomi,” he concluded.
