London, Feb 19 (NationPress) Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has recently undergone surgery on his knee and is anticipated to be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

Tomiyasu, with 18 months still left on his contract, has not featured for Arsenal since appearing as a substitute in their Premier League triumph against Southampton back in October.

He posted a photo on Instagram showcasing himself with a thumbs up while using crutches, his right knee wrapped, captioning it, "I’ve had a surgery on my knee a few days ago, and I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again. This has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more, but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support, and see you again."

Earlier in 2023, Tomiyasu underwent a distinctive knee procedure that kept him out for three months. Now, with this second operation, he faces yet another setback, adding to the injury woes that have characterized his time at Arsenal.

The Japan international joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, making 20 Premier League starts in his first season at the Emirates, but ongoing injuries have limited him to just 17 league starts since.

The 26-year-old is the latest player to be ruled out for the Gunners, joining fellow German international Kai Havertz, who will also be unavailable for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained during a training camp in the UAE. Havertz underwent surgery last Saturday.

"The last few days have been tough to process both physically and mentally. But yesterday was a good day. A successful op and a win. Thanks for all the messages of support over the last few days, it’s really helped. I’m now focused on my journey to full fitness and giving all the support I can give to the team in the background," Havertz shared on social media.
