United Cup: Zverev and Siegemund Lead Germany to Victory Over Brazil in Group E

Perth, Dec 29 (NationPress) The reigning champions, Germany, commenced their United Cup journey with a triumph as Alexander Zverev showcased a stellar opening performance on Sunday, leading Germany to victory against Brazil in Perth, building on teammate Laura Siegemund's pivotal upset win earlier that day.
Zverev, currently ranked World No. 2, secured a win against Thiago Monteiro with a score of 6-4, 6-4 in merely one hour and 17 minutes. This was in stark contrast to Siegemund's challenging three-set victory against Beatriz Haddad Maia in the day's initial match, giving Germany a 1-0 advantage in their Group E contest at the RAC Arena.
The accomplished 23-time ATP Tour title holder, Zverev, delivered an impressive performance, serving 11 aces and only conceding three points on his first serve (29/32), as per Infosys ATP Stats.
Earlier, Siegemund triumphed over Haddad Maia with a scoreline of 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, thereby giving Germany a 1-0 lead in their Group E matchup at the RAC Arena.
Ranked World No. 80, Siegemund achieved this topsy-turvy victory after two hours and 33 minutes in Germany's inaugural match of the event. Although it appeared to be an upset, Siegemund has previously had success against the 17th-ranked Haddad Maia, now leading their head-to-head encounters 4-1, as reported by WTA.
As the top-ranked German woman in both singles and doubles, Siegemund marked the 20th Top 20 victory of her career by defeating Haddad Maia.
In other matches on Sunday afternoon, Czechia achieved victory in Group B, winning 2-1 against Norway in Sydney.
Norway's Casper Ruud kept his country in contention with a hard-fought three-set win against Tomas Machac. However, the Czech star quickly returned to Ken Rosewall Arena, where he and Karolina Muchova defeated Viktor Durasovic and Ulrikke Eikeri with a score of 6-4, 6-4 to seal the tie.
Norway aims to rebound swiftly as they face the defending finalists, Poland, on Monday, while the Czechs will take on the Poles on Wednesday.
