Pune, April 11 (NationPress) Vaidehi Chaudhary commenced her Billie Jean King Cup 2025 Asia-Oceania Group 1 journey with a straight-sets victory, contributing to India's 2-1 triumph over Hong Kong on the third day.

Vaidehi secured her opening singles match with scores of 7-6, 6-1 against Ho Ching Wu. The first set was closely contested, reaching a tie-breaker that the Indian athlete clinched 10-8. However, the second set saw her deliver a commanding performance on her debut day.

Commenting on her match experience, Vaidehi stated, “Winning my first match felt truly rewarding. The opponent posed some challenges with her low balls, which were tough to handle, particularly at the beginning when I was looking for my rhythm. But as the match progressed, I focused on each point. The first set was tough, but my teammates provided the support I needed.”

With the tournament taking place in Pune, organized by MSLTA in collaboration with ITF, AITA, and PMDTA, India aims to leverage its home-ground advantage.

After a loss to New Zealand on the opening day, India bounced back with successive victories against Thailand and Hong Kong. Vaidehi shared the positive atmosphere within the Indian team, saying, "Everyone is really enthusiastic. We are aiming for the play-offs, so we are committed to winning all our matches."

She acknowledged the impact of seasoned players Ankita Raina and Prarthana Thombare off the court, stating, "They bring a wealth of experience and support us younger players significantly. They share valuable insights that have been instrumental in our performances.”

Vaidehi also credited captain Vishal Uppal and coach Radhika Kanitkar Tulpule for India's impressive performance thus far, highlighting their coaching methodologies.
