Experienced fast bowlers Tayla Vlaeminck and Darcie Brown will headline an Australia A women's squad for a three-week tour of India, beginning 12 September. The tour marks a significant comeback for Vlaeminck, who has battled a prolonged sequence of injuries, and a fresh opportunity for Brown following her surprise exclusion from Australia's senior T20 World Cup campaign.

Tour Schedule and Format

The tour spans three formats across three venues. Three T20 internationals will be held in New Chandigarh, followed by three 50-over fixtures in Mohali, and a four-day match at Dharamshala. The multi-format structure is designed to give players exposure across all disciplines in subcontinental conditions.

Three Captains for Three Formats

Tahlia Wilson will captain Australia A in the 50-over matches in Mohali. Nicole Faltum of Victoria will lead the side in the T20s, while Tasmania's Rachel Trenaman will skipper in the four-day fixture. The rotating leadership structure reflects a deliberate effort to develop captaincy depth across the squad.

Vlaeminck's Return and Brown's Recall

Vlaeminck's inclusion is the headline story of this squad. The right-arm quick dislocated her bowling shoulder while fielding during the opening over of her first match at the 2024 T20 World Cup, compounding an already difficult run of shoulder, foot, and knee injuries. She subsequently lost her Cricket Australia contract in April following the sustained injury layoff. This tour represents her first opportunity to return to top-flight cricket.

Brown's situation is equally notable. She was a surprise omission from Australia's T20 World Cup squad — the Sophie Molineux-led side swept through the tournament undefeated — and has since been effectively replaced in the national setup by Lucy Hamilton. Her inclusion in the white-ball component of this tour signals a potential pathway back.

What the Selectors Said

National selector Shawn Flegler highlighted the value both bowlers bring to the group's younger players. 'Both bring invaluable international experience to the group and having them alongside some of our younger players provides a great opportunity for those emerging cricketers to learn from two world-class fast bowlers while continuing their own development,' Flegler said.

On the broader purpose of the tour, Flegler added: 'This tour presents the players with a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in subcontinental conditions and test themselves against strong international opposition. Exposure to Indian conditions early in a player's career is invaluable and those experiences provide an important foundation before they make the step up to international cricket.'

The squad will be coached by Gavan Twining, stepping in from his role as an assistant with Australia's senior side, with Mick Delaney and Cameron Boyce serving as his assistants.
