David Warner Shares His Fitness Journey Post-IPL as He Prepares for PSL Leadership
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 25 (NationPress) David Warner, the ex-Australian opener, disclosed that he has put in considerable effort to maintain his motivation and fitness after stepping away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) two years ago. As he arrives in Pakistan to lead the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), a recent news report highlighted his journey.
The 39-year-old Warner, who has been a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals during his impressive 15-season IPL career before joining the PSL last year, stepped back from international cricket a few years prior. He faced challenges due to a dip in form during the IPL, lost his captaincy, and was not retained by his franchise.
Warner, who captained Sunrisers to their sole IPL championship in 2016, accumulated 6,565 runs across 184 matches, placing him fourth on the all-time runs list behind Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma.
Having represented Australia in all formats from 2009 to 2024, Warner stated that he maintained his fitness regimen after departing from the IPL. “After the IPL, I focused on staying motivated and fit, adhering to a solid fitness routine and healthy diet. I’m here now, stronger and fitter than many players my age,” Warner told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net).
This marks Warner's second year participating in the PSL. Last season, he amassed 368 runs over 11 matches, leading the Karachi Kings to the playoffs, where they were defeated by Islamabad United.
As per the report, Warner expressed optimism that the new additions to the team would yield improved outcomes. “We have several exciting young players who will step up and help us achieve better results,” Warner noted.
The Kings will also benefit from the presence of Warner’s long-time teammate, Adam Zampa, who arrived in Lahore on Wednesday. “We have crafted a well-rounded squad through the auction, which is now a standard practice across many leagues,” Warner remarked, having also played for Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, St Lucia Stars, Winnipeg Hawks, Sylhet Sixers, Dubai Capitals, Seattle Orcas, and London Spirit in franchise cricket.
The 2020 PSL champions, Karachi Kings, are set to face Quetta Gladiators in their opening match this Friday.
