Karachi, March 24 (NationPress) David Warner, the former opener for Australia, has been named the captain of Karachi Kings for the upcoming 2025 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is set to kick off on April 11.
This will mark Warner's first participation in the PSL, following his selection as the top pick by Karachi Kings during the Players Draft 2025, held at the iconic Hazuri Bagh in Lahore on January 13, reflecting the franchise's strong belief in his capabilities.
Warner was signed by Karachi Kings for an unprecedented USD 300,000, making him the highest-paid player in PSL history.
"The dynamic left-handed batsman, celebrated for his aggressive leadership style and ability to secure victories, will lead the franchise's efforts in this eagerly awaited season," the franchise announced on Monday.
"As a World Cup champion and one of the most explosive openers in T20 cricket, Warner brings extensive experience to this role. With more than a decade of leadership across major leagues, such as the Big Bash League (BBL) and Indian Premier League (IPL), he is ready to usher in a new era for the Kings," the statement continued.
He will take over the captaincy from Shan Masood. Last year, Karachi Kings secured fifth place in the six-team league, achieving only four wins out of 10 matches. The team has clinched the PSL title once, during the 2020 season.
