New Chandigarh, March 22 (NationPress) The new head coach of Punjab Kings, Ricky Ponting, is brimming with enthusiasm for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. He expressed his ambition to construct the finest team in the franchise's history in pursuit of their first title.

During a recent discussion with media representatives at the New PCA stadium in New Chandigarh, the former Australian World Cup-winning captain exuded confidence in the newly formed squad from this season's auction, firmly believing they can secure the trophy.

“The overarching goal for this team is to clinch the IPL. I made it clear to the players on my very first day at the camp in Dharamshala that we are on a mission to create the greatest Punjab Kings team ever. This is the journey we are embarking on, and it requires time and dedication,” stated the former captain.

On the winning mentality he aims to instill, Ponting remarked, “Winning is fundamentally about attitude. When we show up to compete, and the opposition is also ready to play, if they aim to defeat us, it feels like they are taking something valuable away. I refuse to let anyone take anything from me or my team.”

Furthermore, the new head coach is optimistic about the combination of youthful and seasoned players, which he believes is crucial for achieving success in the tournament.

Speaking about the promising youngsters who have caught his attention during practice, Ricky mentioned, “Priyansh Arya is a remarkable potential opening batsman for us in the tournament. Depending on our overseas player strategy, he is very exciting. Suryansh Shedge has also been impressive in our training sessions.”

“When I discuss energy and enjoyment, another player who stands out is Musheer Khan. His infectious attitude has greatly contributed to the team's spirit in training, and I have genuinely enjoyed collaborating with him,” he added.

He also emphasized the importance of experienced overseas players setting the right example for the younger ones, as they look up to them. “I rely heavily on them to set a strong standard. Many young domestic Indian players admire the overseas players, and if the latter fail to demonstrate the right behavior, it becomes easy for the young Indian players to follow suit. Therefore, I empower the overseas players to take on leadership roles,” he explained.

The Punjab Kings will kick off their season against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 25. Following another away match against the Lucknow Super Giants, they will return to their home ground for two matches against the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.
