Bengaluru, Feb 22 (NationPress) Kranti Goud and Grace Harris each took four wickets, helping to dismiss the Delhi Capitals for 144 runs in 19.3 overs, securing a 33-run victory for the UP Warriorz in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first, the Warriorz thrived on the explosive hitting of Chinelle Henry, who achieved the joint-fastest fifty in the tournament's history, propelling the team to 177/9 in their full 20 overs. Chinelle stepped up after the UP top-order struggled to score significantly.

This match marked the first occasion in this season's WPL that a team batting first claimed victory.

As the match neared its conclusion, Grace Harris showcased a remarkable performance for the fans. In the final over, she bowled a short delivery to Niki Prasad, which was caught at deep midwicket. A subsequent full toss led to Arundhati Reddy hitting to cover-point, where Deepti Sharma executed a fine low catch. The highlight of the match was when Grace caught and bowled Minnu Mani, achieving the third hat-trick in WPL history.

Defending their score of 177, UP Warriorz faced challenges, including numerous dropped catches. Saima Thakor, who replaced Rajeshwari Gayakwad, dropped three catches, including two of Shafali Varma.

The opening partnership between Shafali and Meg Lanning had a shaky start, with Shafali hitting some early boundaries before Kranti claimed Meg's wicket, marking her maiden wicket in WPL.

Saima redeemed herself in the ninth over, when a short delivery resulted in a catch to her, executed flawlessly this time.

Jemimah Rodrigues scored 56 runs off 35 balls, being the only batter from the Delhi Capitals to put up any resistance, but her dismissal, which was Kranti's fourth of the match, sealed the Capitals' fate.

During the first innings, Chinelle Henry's explosive 62 off 23 balls lifted UP Warriorz to 177/9. The team was in a precarious position at 91/6, but Henry's aggressive batting turned the tide, striking at an impressive 269.57, reaching her fifty in just 18 balls, matching the record for the fastest fifty in WPL history. She concluded her innings with eight sixes and two fours.

Henry's dazzling hitting ensured a powerful finish, hitting four consecutive sixes in the second-to-last over. Despite two late wickets from Jonassen, Henry's contribution was vital in achieving a total of 177/9.

For Delhi's bowling, Jess Jonassen secured four wickets, while Arundhati Reddy and Marizanne Kapp each added to their season tally.
