Dubai, June 19 (NationPress) Two members of the West Indies women's cricket team, Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph, have been penalized for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against South Africa at the 3Ws Oval in Barbados last week.
They were found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses “demonstrating dissent at an umpire's ruling during an international match.”
Alleyne received a fine of 10 percent of her match fee and incurred one demerit point on her disciplinary record, as she openly gestured and delayed her exit from the field after being declared out by the umpires, according to an ICC statement.
Joseph displayed similar behavior but in a more aggressive manner, resulting in a 50 percent fine of her match fee and two demerit points added to her record.
Both players acknowledged their actions and accepted the penalties suggested by Akhtar Ahmad from the ICC International Panel of match referees, so a formal hearing was unnecessary.
The charges were brought by on-field umpires Jacqueline Williams, Nimali Perera, third umpire Candace la Borde, and fourth umpire Maria Abbott.
Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, with a maximum fine of 50 percent of a player's match fee and one or two demerit points.
After securing two consecutive victories in the second and third ODIs, South Africa clinched the three-match series with a score of 2-1. The West Indies began the series strongly with a four-wicket victory but could not maintain their momentum.
South Africa achieved impressive wins by 40 runs and 166 runs (DLS method) in the second and third ODIs, respectively, marking a remarkable comeback in the series.
The two teams are set to face off in a three-match T20I series starting this Friday. The six-match white-ball series will conclude on June 23.
