Al-Rayyan (Qatar), Dec 18 (NationPress) The head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique, shared his enthusiasm following his team's remarkable victory over Flamengo in a thrilling penalty shootout to clinch the FIFA Intercontinental Cup for the first time, declaring that his squad has etched their name in history once more.

This past year has been nothing short of extraordinary for Luis Enrique and his players, who achieved a treble in the 2024/25 season, including their inaugural UEFA Champions League title.

Ending the year on a triumphant note, Paris Saint-Germain overcame CF Flamengo 2-1 in penalties after a 1-1 tie in regular time. Flamengo rallied to equalize at 1-1, prompting the shootout where PSG's Russian goalkeeper Matvei Safonov emerged as the standout performer, saving four penalties to lead his team to victory.

“We’ve made history again! This year has been incredible and unforgettable,” Enrique expressed. “We are obviously delighted for ourselves, the club, and our loyal supporters. It’s fantastic, and we must keep pushing forward.”

Midfielder Vitinha was honored as the best player in the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup final, receiving his accolade from FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“It’s an amazing feeling. This final was crucial, and we emerged victorious. It was challenging; we put in substantial effort, and now we’re ecstatic. We believe we’ve done well, combining hard work with a stroke of luck, but that’s essential. Safonov was phenomenal as well!” Vitinha remarked.
