New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Will Jacks, who made significant contributions of 2-14 in three overs and scored 36 runs off 26 balls, played a pivotal role in leading his team to a four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He stated that his bowling mindset was always focused on taking wickets and maintaining an aggressive stance.

At the Wankhede Stadium, Jacks utilized his quick off-spin to achieve a stumping of Ishan Kishan and then captured Travis Head as he holed out to long-off, disrupting SRH’s strategy to secure a substantial total on a challenging pitch.

"I’m really satisfied. I anticipated playing a significant role with the ball. Facing three left-handers in their top order, we expected some assistance. At times, I feel inclined to be overly defensive instead of leveraging my strengths. It’s simple to concentrate on the batters, yet it’s essential to remember your own skills – you’re there to dismiss them," Jacks explained after the match.

When asked about utilizing his strengths as an off-spinner effectively, Jacks remarked, "If you bowl cautiously against such players, it usually ends up poorly. Initially, I thought I would bowl during the powerplay; however, I had more protection, allowing me to bowl confidently and apply my skills. Being a tall bowler, I generate good turn and bounce, which was my goal."

Up until now, Jacks had a relatively subdued IPL 2025, especially given the high expectations surrounding him. However, his all-round performance against SRH indicated that he is finally finding his form in the tournament for MI.

"I believe it was crucial to play strategically and choose the right options, which ultimately benefited us. When we bowled, we adapted swiftly, demonstrating what good teams do," he added.

"I wish I could have contributed more in the initial five or six matches I participated in. Nonetheless, the team’s message has been constant. Mahela Jayawardene encourages me to express myself and apply pressure on the opposing team, and they have consistently communicated this clearly during training.

“I understand my purpose here. I know my capabilities, and it’s about showcasing that on the field. I was pleased with my performance, taking the initiative against the bowlers while also making sound decisions under the conditions to provide some assistance,” he concluded.
