New Delhi, July 7 (NationPress) Newcastle United has announced that forward Callum Wilson has parted ways with the club after a five-year tenure, following the expiration of his contract at the end of June.
The English striker made his move to Newcastle United from AFC Bournemouth in 2020, representing the club on 139 occasions and scoring 49 goals. Despite a stellar start with the Toons, Wilson encountered injury setbacks, which led to him playing a secondary role to Alexander Isak.
“It's time to say goodbye after an unforgettable few years in the Toon. Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and some lows to help the club reach new heights.
“I am immensely proud to have worn the legendary No. 9 shirt and to have contributed to its rich history. Scoring at the Gallowgate End is as special as everyone says. All good things must come to an end, but I will always cherish Newcastle United in my heart and that of my family. Thank you for the memories,” stated the English striker.
Wilson had a remarkable debut season at NE1, scoring 12 goals in 28 appearances, which earned him the title of Newcastle United's official Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season.
Having made his senior debut for England in 2018, Wilson was part of the Three Lions' squad for the 2022 World Cup alongside teammates Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope.
He marked his debut in a major international tournament during England's opening group match against Iran, providing an assist after coming off the bench in a 6-2 victory and also featured in the Three Lions’ 3-0 triumph against Wales.
Wilson achieved his highest goalscoring record in a single Premier League season by netting a brace against Leeds United, converting two penalties in a 2-2 draw, and scoring in a memorable 4-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, concluding the 2022/23 season with 18 goals in 31 appearances.
He clinched his first domestic trophy with the Carabao Cup, helping Newcastle end a 56-year wait for major silverware with a 2-1 win against Liverpool.
