Visakhapatnam, Oct 16 (NationPress) Australia’s captain Alyssa Healy expressed her admiration for her team’s outstanding display that propelled them to a decisive 10-wicket victory against Bangladesh, thereby ensuring their progression to the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup.
This victory marked Australia’s most commanding win in the tournament to date, maintaining their impressive winning streak and positioning them at the top of the leaderboard with nine points from five matches.
After not being able to bowl out Bangladesh, Australia faced a target of 199 runs. Healy and Phoebe Litchfield took charge, forming an unbroken 202-run partnership, the second-highest for any wicket against Bangladesh in Women’s ODIs, successfully securing two points in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
“I thought she was remarkable today (referring to Phoebe Litchfield). We take pride in our professionalism, and we played well today to earn the two points. We'll come back ready for the next match,” Healy stated during the post-match presentation.
Regarding Alana King’s impressive bowling performance of 2-18 that earned her the Player of the Match title, Healy commended the leg-spinner for her exceptional display.
“It was fantastic for her (on Alana King), wonderful to see her excel and reap the rewards. The players coming in have played significant roles for us - Darcie was excellent up front, and as I mentioned, we will adjust according to conditions and match-ups,” the Australian captain remarked.
“I think they (Bangladesh) played well. We gave our best, but our execution was lacking. However, I’m pleased to have secured the two points. Honestly, it was challenging; I was disappointed with my glove work today, but I compensated somewhat with the bat; I truly enjoy the challenge,” she added.
Next, Australia will face England, marking a matchup between two unbeaten teams, at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on October 22. On the upcoming clash with England, Healy noted that it would present a fresh challenge for them.
“We’ve been here for some time, and we will be heading to a new venue, as we haven't played in Indore before. A new challenge awaits against England,” she concluded.
