Vadodara, Jan 24 (NationPress) Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues commended her team’s unwavering belief and execution of their strategy after they successfully halted Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s six-match winning streak in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 with a dominant seven-wicket win at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Saturday.
“Absolutely, and the credit truly belongs to the team. One key aspect is that the team has consistently believed in and executed our plans. This certainly makes my role as captain easier. Everything went according to plan tonight. We felt a bit of pressure when Smriti was batting, but a spectacular catch and Mani's timely entry were crucial,” she expressed during the post-match presentation.
She acknowledged the importance of the team's strategy to target the stumps rather than simply hunting for wickets. “We had a discussion about this. Mani was going to come on regardless of the timer due to the left-hander. Our focus was on continually attacking the stumps, and not stressing too much about taking wickets—just keep attacking and the wickets will follow. Everyone executed this really well,” she noted.
“We didn’t dwell on the outcome too much since today’s match was pivotal. Every game matters, but today was especially critical given RCB's current form. We adhered to our plans and executed them flawlessly. Sometimes, to achieve victory, one must face defeat. Today was one of those days,” she added.
Jemimah emphasized that the win showcased her squad's resilience. “This victory also reflects the girls' character. A champion team knows how to bounce back after a setback. That’s exactly what this team has done, and I’m incredibly proud of them. While we can celebrate today’s win, we must return to business and keep things simple—execute our plans, and the outcomes will follow,” she remarked.
On reflecting upon her captaincy, Jemimah shared that she is still gaining experience. “I’ve learned a lot. Fortunately, I haven’t lost my hair yet, so it’s all good! I truly enjoy it. Every game presents unique challenges, and I allow myself the space to learn from errors,” she said.
“For instance, in our last match against RCB, I kept Kappy for later in case we needed her. But today, I decided to utilize her right away. That was a lesson learned. As long as you're willing to learn, mistakes become part of the journey,” she concluded.
