Vadodara, Jan 24 (NationPress) In a strategic move, Delhi Capitals (DC) have introduced Chinelle Henry and Minnu Mani after winning the toss, opting to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during their 2026 Women’s Premier League match at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Saturday.
Currently leading the table, RCB has already secured a playoff spot, and a sixth consecutive victory would allow them to bypass the Eliminator, ensuring a direct entry into the finals. On the other hand, DC is focused on enhancing their chances of making it to the knockout stage, making this win crucial.
After the toss, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana announced that seam-bowling all-rounder Arundhati Reddy is back in the squad, replacing Prema Rawat.
“We considered various factors on the field. Given the windy conditions today, we anticipate less dew than in previous matches, which typically diminishes in windy weather,” she explained.
“Batting first was definitely an option we contemplated. However, our recent toss outcomes have not favored us. It's vital for us to qualify for the finals. The team's dedication during practice sessions has been commendable, and everyone attended the optional training, showcasing the group's commitment. As the captain and support staff, that's quite gratifying. We are evolving into a formidable team,” she added.
On the other side, Delhi Capitals' skipper Jemimah Rodrigues mentioned that Chinelle Henry and Minnu Mani replace Lucy Hamilton and Deeya Yadav, both sidelined due to back injuries. “Playing under lights, the ball will likely skid, and the dew will become a factor. The pitch appears fresh and conducive for batting, but we expect it to remain a bit low,” she remarked.
“Our game plan is unlikely to shift significantly. The young players bring immense energy, but everything is a new experience for them. We aim to share our knowledge while drawing inspiration from their enthusiasm, creating a mutually beneficial dynamic,” she concluded.
