Vadodara, Jan 5 (NationPress) In an exciting turn of events at the WTT Youth Contender 2026, India’s Priyanuj Bhattacharya and Japan’s Miku Matsushima achieved remarkable victories to secure the singles titles in the U-19 boys' and girls' categories. The event took place at the SAMA Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara, hosted by the Sports Authority of Gujarat.
In the U-15 categories, Sreejani Chakraborty and Aditya Das emerged as champions for the girls' and boys' respectively, while Aadya Baheti and Rajdeep Biswas claimed victories in the U-11 segment.
This second edition of the WTT Youth Contender, organized by the Table Tennis Association of Baroda and supported by UTT, featured an impressive participation of 226 players across age groups ranging from U-11 to U-19.
During the U-19 boys' final, Priyanuj displayed exceptional composure, overcoming Sarthak Arya with scores of 12-10, 11-8, and 14-12. Meanwhile, Miku staged a comeback from a 1-2 setback to triumph over top seed Divyanshi Bhowmick with scores of 11-6, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, and 11-3.
Notably, Abhinandh Pradhivadhi, the boys' top seed, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Naman Bhatnagar, who subsequently fell to Priyanuj in the semifinals.
In the U-19 girls' bracket, Miku defeated another prominent Indian junior, Jennifer Varghese, in the semifinals, winning 6-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-4, 11-7. Jennifer had previously ousted defending champion Syndrela Das in the quarterfinals. Syndrela had already secured the girls' U-17 singles and U-19 mixed doubles titles during this edition.
Earlier in the day, Aadya clinched the girls' U-11 title by defeating Sakshya Santosh 15-13, 11-8, 12-10, while Rajdeep Biswas defeated Sharvil Karambelkar 11-8, 11-6, 11-13, 11-4 in the boys' U-11 final.
In the boys' U-15 final, the top seed Aditya Das showcased dominance against Sanjay Jagdish, winning decisively with scores of 11-4, 11-9, and 11-8. The U-15 girls' final was a nail-biter, with Sreejani emerging victorious 8-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5.
In the boys' U-15 event, Vivaan Dave overcame Rishaan Chattopadhyay 9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-3 to reach the quarterfinals, where he will face Rudra Jena, who bested U-13 boys' singles champion Dev Pranav Bhatt with scores of 11-4, 11-8, 11-5.
The top seeds in the U-15 girls' singles, including Ankolika Chakraborty, Naisha Rewaskar, and rising star Tanishka Kalbhairav, also progressed comfortably to the quarterfinals.
