London, Aug 2 (NationPress) The childhood coach of India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jwala Singh, has shown great optimism that his pupil will transform his fifty into a century on Day 3 of the ongoing fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.

In India's second innings, after the home team dismissed KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan cheaply, Jaiswal's unbeaten 51 and nightwatchman Akash Deep (4*) managed to withstand England's bowling attack before the day's end, particularly since Jaiswal was dropped on 41. India concluded Day 2 of The Oval Test with a lead of 52 runs.

"I’m delighted with Yashasvi's performance as he has been consistently accumulating runs. While he has exhibited moments of inconsistency, he is currently batting above 50. I hope he can elevate this to a substantial score tomorrow — possibly even a century. We will see how it unfolds," Singh shared with IANS.

Jaiswal has had a varied performance throughout the series thus far. He began robustly with a century in the opening Test at Leeds, then recorded scores of 87 and 28 in the following matches. However, he faced challenges in the Lord’s Test, failing to make a significant impact, but rebounded with a score of 58 in the Manchester Test.

After England bowled India out for 224 in the first innings, openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley threatened to seize control, but Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna helped India regain momentum by limiting England's lead to just 23 runs, dismissing them for 247.

Reflecting on the play so far, Singh remarked, "The first two days of the fifth Test have showcased typical English weather. When we were all out, it seemed like England would have an upper hand. However, the way our bowlers managed to dismiss them within a day without allowing a significant lead is indeed a positive indicator."

"Currently, India has commenced their second innings, scoring over 70 runs for the loss of two wickets. I believe India should aim to set a formidable total — around 300 runs. Achieving this will significantly enhance our chances of winning this Test match," he added.

In conclusion, Singh stated, "The pressure is primarily on England, especially with the absence of their regular captain, Ben Stokes. There remains ample time in this Test match, and there is a realistic possibility of a result despite the rain. If our batsmen perform well, India can secure victory in this Test match."

Point of View

We recognize the significance of Jaiswal's performance in the ongoing series. His potential to convert a fifty into a century could tilt the balance in India's favor. With England under pressure, this Test match is poised for an exciting finish.
