Chandigarh, Feb 28 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has criticized Pakistani cricket legends for failing to support the youth structure in their country, claiming they “abuse” their own nation merely for financial gain.
Pakistan's concluding Group A match against Bangladesh was cancelled due to rain in Rawalpindi on Thursday, resulting in their Champions Trophy campaign ending without a victory. With just one point from the washout, Pakistan finished at the bottom of their group in their first home tournament in 29 years.
“The issue with Pakistan is that all the retired players like Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, and Inzamam-ul-Haq, whom I respect greatly, are not contributing to the development of young talent. Unlike them, players from India like Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Yuvraj Singh have actively worked to nurture future Indian players,” he stated.
“My love for my country is so profound that I was willing to sacrifice my son, who battled cancer, yet they lack that same commitment. They compare themselves to India but don’t cherish their country enough to realize, ‘We’ve made enough money’ and should focus on training the younger generations,” Yograj expressed.
“Imran Khan laid the groundwork for all these players, yet they lack the decency to visit him in jail. They are the type who sit and hurl insults at their own country for financial gain,” Yograj told IANS.
Yograj, who has transitioned to a coaching role since his playing days, has offered to assist the Pakistan national team but will only do so with approval from the Indian government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“We were united 75 years ago, then separated, but love remains. I would gladly offer my services to any team in distress. If Pakistan extends an offer, and the government and BCCI consent, I will consider the role,” he added.
While Pakistan faced humiliation by being eliminated without a win, their rivals India advanced to the semi-finals, having secured victories over both Bangladesh and Pakistan in their first two matches.
The Rohit Sharma-led team is currently in excellent form with both bat and ball. Yograj reiterated his belief that India is ‘unbeatable.’
“India is a formidable side. We’re missing Bumrah at the moment, otherwise it would be a one-sided tournament. I foresee New Zealand and India reaching the final,” he remarked.
India will face New Zealand in their last Group A match on March 2.
