Sharjah, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Sharjah Warriorz are thrilled to reveal the acquisition of Australian international cricketer Adam Zampa, who will step in for Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis for the remainder of ILT20 Season 3.
Zampa, who briefly participated in the inaugural ILT20 season, boasts nearly 400 T20 matches under his belt. With an impressive economy rate of under eight runs per over, he has secured 117 wickets in 95 T20Is and 355 wickets in 291 T20 matches, including four five-wicket hauls. The 32-year-old, inspired by the legendary Shane Warne, is the first Australian bowler to achieve 100 T20I wickets and is currently the leading wicket-taker for his national side.
A pivotal player in Australia’s T20 World Cup victory in 2021, Zampa finished second on the wickets leaderboard with 13 wickets from 7 matches, maintaining an economy of 5.81 and achieving best figures of 5-19, the top bowling performance of the tournament. Notably, the 2021 T20 World Cup took place in UAE and Oman, and Zampa’s prior experience in these conditions will be invaluable for the Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20.
With extensive experience in T20 leagues, Zampa has competed in the Big Bash League in Australia, the IPL in India, the Caribbean Premier League, The Hundred, Vitality Blast in the UK, and Major League Cricket in the USA.
Joining the ranks of the Sharjah Warriorz, Zampa will collaborate with notable players such as Adil Rashid, Harmeet Singh, Mohammad Jawadullah, captain Tim Southee, and Adam Milne in the bowling department.
“I am thrilled to return to the UAE and join the Sharjah Warriorz for Season 3 of the ILT20. The Warriorz are one of the premier franchises in the tournament, and I am eager to team up with Adil Rashid, Tim Southee, and JP Duminy. I believe that we will perform well together and deliver exceptional results for our fans in the tournament's second half,” stated Zampa.
“Adam Zampa is an exceptional bowler, and a player every team desires. We are excited to welcome him to our squad, where we believe he will play a vital role in our success this season. He is among the most formidable bowlers in this format, and we are confident he will make a significant impact for the Sharjah Warriorz in the UAE, a place filled with happy cricketing memories for him,” remarked JP Duminy, coach of the Sharjah Warriorz.
