Zimbabwe name 15-man T20I squad vs Bangladesh: Shumba, Nyamhuri in
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Wednesday, 8 July named a 15-member squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, retaining the core group that advanced to the Super Eight at the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Experienced all-rounder Sikandar Raza continues as captain.
Key Changes to the Squad
Two new faces enter the setup: young fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri and batter Milton Shumba. Nyamhuri, yet to make his T20I debut, earned his call-up after consistent performances across formats. Shumba, meanwhile, returns to Zimbabwe's T20I side for the first time since the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia — a gap of nearly four years.
Batter Ben Curran, who joined the T20 World Cup squad earlier this year as an injury replacement for Brendan Taylor, has retained his place. Taylor and Tony Munyonga are among those who miss out from the World Cup squad, while Graeme Cremer was ruled out due to a left-arm fracture.
What the Selectors Said
Convener of Selectors David Mutendera emphasised continuity as the driving principle behind the selections. 'The T20 World Cup showed what this group is capable of, so continuity was an important consideration for us. We wanted to keep together the core of a squad that reached the Super Eight while also creating room for players who have earned their opportunities,' he said.
Mutendera added: 'This series gives the team another opportunity to keep growing as we continue building towards the major international tournaments ahead.'
Series Schedule and Venue
The three T20Is are scheduled at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on 15, 17, and 19 July. The fixtures will follow the conclusion of the ongoing ODI series in Harare. Bulawayo's Queens Sports Club has historically been Zimbabwe's preferred T20 venue for home series.
