Zimbabwe Set to Welcome Ireland for a Comprehensive Series in February

Harare, Jan 3 (NationPress) Zimbabwe Cricket has declared a seven-match, all-format series against Ireland, which is set to unfold in February 2025. This eagerly awaited tour will commence with a single Test match in Bulawayo from February 6 to 10, followed by three ODIs and three T20Is in Harare. The series signifies a pivotal opportunity for Zimbabwe to regain momentum following a difficult home series against Afghanistan. Although they achieved a draw in the rain-affected first Test, Zimbabwe fell short in the white-ball series, losing the T20Is 2-1 and the ODI series 2-0.

The current tour against Afghanistan wraps up with the ongoing second Test, which is set to conclude on January 6.

Zimbabwe Cricket’s managing director, Givemore Makoni, expressed excitement about hosting consecutive full tours. “We are thrilled to host Ireland for what promises to be an exciting and competitive tour,” Makoni stated. “Welcoming two full tours in rapid succession demonstrates our commitment to providing our players with regular international cricket and our efforts to promote the game in Zimbabwe.”

This forthcoming series will mark only the second-ever Test between Zimbabwe and Ireland. The two teams last clashed in the longest format in July 2024 in Belfast, where Ireland emerged victorious with a hard-fought four-wicket win.

Ireland will also return to Zimbabwe for the first time since late 2023 when the teams competed in a six-match white-ball series. During that previous tour, Ireland triumphed in both formats, winning the T20I series 2-1 and the ODI series 2-0.
