Harare, April 21 (NationPress) Zimbabwe Cricket has revealed that its women's team is set to embark on a groundbreaking tour of the United States of America (USA) for a limited-overs series starting this week.
This landmark tour marks Zimbabwe women’s inaugural visit to the USA for any bilateral cricket series, featuring three T20Is and two ODIs scheduled from April 25 to May 3, all to be played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.
The series will kick off with the T20I matches on April 25, 27, and 29, followed by the ODI series on May 1 and 3.
According to a statement from Zimbabwe Cricket, this historic engagement aligns with their steadfast commitment to expanding international playing opportunities for the Zimbabwe Women’s national team across both formats of the game.
The last encounter between Zimbabwe women and USA women occurred in October 2024, when the Americans visited Harare for an ODI series.
Before the team’s departure, Zimbabwe women’s head coach Walter Chawaguta emphasized the tour's significance as a crucial step for his squad.
“The US tour is a start to a steady build-up towards the Ireland series in July, providing a benchmark for us ahead of next year's FTP. It also initiates our path towards the Africa qualifiers later this year,” he stated.
For the upcoming matches in Texas, ZC has assembled a well-rounded 15-member squad that combines experienced players with promising young talent.
Veterans such as Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Josephine Nkomo, Modester Mupachikwa, Precious Marange, Loreen Tshuma, Chiedza Dhururu, and Nomvelo Sibanda will offer essential experience and leadership.
They are accompanied by some of the nation's brightest young talents, including rising stars Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza.
The squad also includes promising players such as Adel Zimunu, Natasha Mthomba, and Lindokuhle Mabhero, as Zimbabwe Women's team continues to plan for the future.
“The squad was selected to embody a ‘bigger picture’ approach, aimed at broadening our player base and fostering healthy competition for spots within the team,” Chawaguta mentioned.
