Harare, April 21 (NationPress) Zimbabwe Cricket has declared that its women’s team will be making a groundbreaking tour to the United States of America (USA) for a limited-overs series commencing this week.
This significant tour marks the Zimbabwe women’s inaugural visit to the USA for a bilateral cricket series, featuring three T20Is and two ODIs scheduled from April 25 to May 3, all taking place at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.
The tour will kick off with the T20I matches on April 25, 27, and 29, followed by the ODI series on May 1 and 3.
According to a statement from Zimbabwe Cricket, "This historic engagement is part of ZC’s steadfast commitment to enhancing international playing opportunities for the Zimbabwe Women’s national team across both formats of the game."
The last encounter between the Zimbabwean women and their USA counterparts was in October 2024 when the American team visited Harare for an ODI series.
Prior to the team’s departure, head coach Walter Chawaguta characterized the tour as a crucial milestone for his squad.
"The US tour marks the beginning of a consistent buildup towards the Ireland series in July, which will help us assess our standing ahead of next year’s FTP. It also initiates our path towards the Africa qualifiers later this year," he stated.
For the Texas series, ZC has assembled a well-rounded 15-member squad, blending seasoned players with promising young talent.
Experienced players such as Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Josephine Nkomo, Modester Mupachikwa, Precious Marange, Loreen Tshuma, Chiedza Dhururu, and Nomvelo Sibanda will offer essential leadership and experience.
They are accompanied by some of the nation's brightest young stars like Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza.
The squad also includes rising talents Adel Zimunu, Natasha Mthomba, and Lindokuhle Mabhero, as the Zimbabwe Women aim for future growth.
Chawaguta emphasized, "The squad was chosen with a broader vision in mind, aiming to expand our player base and foster healthy competition for positions within the team."
