Srinagar, Sep 13 (NationPress) A significant narcotics trafficking operation was dismantled by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the apprehension of three suspects and the confiscation of over 10 kg of charas (illegal substance).
The trio detained consisted of a supplier along with two repeat offenders.
Following specific intelligence, NCB Srinagar launched a focused operation in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on August 19.
This operation resulted in the capture of approximately 10.735 kgs of charas.
The individuals arrested were identified as Firdous, a Bijbehara resident, Jan Mohd Baba from Lal Bazaar, Srinagar, and Mohd Lateef from Srigufwara, Anantnag.
Background checks have shown that Firdous has a history of involvement in other NDPS cases registered against him at Bijbehara Police Station and NCB Jammu, while Jan Mohd Baba has also faced charges in an NDPS case from NCB Jammu.
Investigations into the case revealed that the contraband was sourced from Mohammad Lateef, who has also been apprehended in connection with this operation and was allegedly facilitating its inter-state transportation through illicit means.
The establishment of the NCB office in Srinagar is part of the Union Government's strategic plan to enhance narcotics enforcement within Jammu and Kashmir.
NCB is dedicated to disrupting the drug trade and its associated activities, safeguarding the youth from its detrimental effects, and ensuring effective inter-agency collaboration throughout the Union Territory.
In the battle against drug trafficking, NCB calls upon the community for support. Citizens can report any narcotics-related information by contacting the MANAS- National Narcotics Helpline Toll Free Number-1933, with caller identities kept confidential.
Law enforcement and preventive agencies are intensifying their efforts against drug traffickers and dealers, as it is believed that the proceeds from hawala and drug smuggling are ultimately used to fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
