Raipur/Sukma, Dec 12 (NationPress) The region of Sukma in Chhattisgarh has marked a significant achievement in combating Naxal insurgency, as ten Maoists from the Darbha division have surrendered to security forces.
The surrendered individuals had a collective bounty of Rs 33 lakh, which includes Medium Bhima, who had a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head.
This group, comprising six women, relinquished firearms such as an AK-47, two SLRs, and a BGL (barrel grenade launcher), indicating their willingness to accept the rehabilitation policy introduced by both the central and state governments.
The surrender event was attended by notable officials including Bastar Inspector General P Sundarraj, CRPF DIG Anand Singh Rajpurohit, Sukma SP Kiran Chavan, and Collector Devesh Dhruv.
Authorities reiterated that the rehabilitation policy assures dignity, livelihood, and reintegration into society for those who renounce violence.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, via a statement on X, praised this development as part of a historic shift in Bastar, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guided by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He underscored that the “Poona Margem – Rehabilitation to Rejuvenation” initiative is facilitating Maoist cadres' return to mainstream society, providing them with a secure and dignified life alongside their families.
“Our mission is straightforward: to make Chhattisgarh entirely Maoist-free and to redefine Bastar with development, trust, and opportunities,” he stated.
The individuals who surrendered include Medium Bhima (Rs 8 lakh), Ganga Kunjam (Rs 5 lakh), Lekam Rama (Rs 5 lakh), Tati Soni (Rs 5 lakh), Shanti Sodi (Rs 5 lakh), Madvi Naveen (Rs 1 lakh), Madvi Rukni (Rs 1 lakh), Oyam Mangli (Rs 1 lakh), Podiyam Mangi (Rs 1 lakh), and Madvi Gangi (Rs 1 lakh).
Umesh Sundam, district president of Sarva Adivasi Samaj, called upon other youth still involved in the organization to follow suit, highlighting the rapid changes occurring in Bastar.
He noted that even senior members are surrendering in states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. This news follows another significant success where 11 Maoists, including CCM member Ramdher Majji, surrendered in Khairagarh.
Majji, a high-profile leader sought after by law enforcement, was pivotal in the MMC zone, which is now believed to be nearly dismantled.
With the recent removal of notorious commander Hidma and successive surrenders, security forces anticipate that more Maoists will abandon their arms.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Chhattisgarh next week, a visit deemed vital for reinforcing these advancements.
