Key Takeaways
Srinagar, March 11 (NationPress) - The J&K Students Association (JKSA) announced on Wednesday that approximately 100 Indian students are set to return from Iran via Armenia on March 14 and March 15.
According to Nasir Kheuhami, the National Convenor of JKSA, these students will be evacuating from conflict-ridden Iran using the Armenia route, marking a significant movement as they navigate the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.
The students will first arrive at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, Armenia, via land before boarding commercial flights back to India.
Most students are projected to return on March 14, while the rest will follow on March 15. They have already secured their flight tickets and will depart from various locations in Iran, predominantly Urmia, heading toward the Armenian border on Thursday.
“The students will be utilizing Flydubai flights on March 14 and March 15, which will serve as connecting flights through Dubai, before arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi,” Khuehami stated.
The Association had previously reached out to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure safe passage and obtain the necessary permissions for the students to travel through the Armenia land corridor, which is currently the most viable option for safe transit from northwestern Iran.
Khuehami noted that the Ministry of External Affairs responded positively, facilitating the required permissions for the students to finalize their travel plans.
During discussions with senior officials, including the Foreign Secretary and the Iranian Ambassador to India, it was made clear that there is no organized evacuation strategy for Indian students in Iran at the moment, and those returning are relying on commercial flight options.
The Association has also advised students in Iran to refrain from sharing their exact locations or personal information on social media as a safety measure to mitigate exposure to potential risks.
Khuehami mentioned that JKSA is maintaining close communication with the students and is coordinating travel, security, and arrival logistics in India with both the Ministry of External Affairs and the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
He also informed that arrangements for deluxe AC buses will be made at IGI Airport, New Delhi, for the onward journey of students returning to Kashmir on March 14, March 15, and subsequent dates via Armenia and other routes.
“The Association will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide all necessary support to ensure the safe return of Indian students from the region,” Khuehami concluded.
