The perpetrator, identified as Chandra Mohan Ban Singh, who lived nearby, has been taken into custody.
As per police reports, this horrific event transpired late Thursday evening while the victim, Arjun Ban Singh's parents, Sinkur Ban Singh and his wife, were at the local market.
Upon their return, their nine-year-old daughter, Anita, informed them that the accused had entered their home armed with a knife and viciously attacked Arjun, fatally slitting his throat. Anita managed to escape and raised the alarm.
A police team was promptly assembled under the directive of Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar.
Following a written complaint from the victim’s father, a case was registered at the Chaibasa Mufassil police station under Case No. 83/2025, Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
In a swift response, police apprehended Chandra Mohan Ban Singh on Friday morning.
During the interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and the iron knife utilized in the murder was recovered from his residence.
Initial investigations suggest that the motive for the murder may be associated with an ongoing land dispute and allegations of witchcraft.
According to police sources, the accused’s wife had recently accused Arjun’s mother of witchcraft, which could have incited this violent act.
The arrest operation involved a dedicated team consisting of Mufassil police station in-charge Chandrashekhar, Sub-Inspector Mithun Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Yadunandan Mahato, Dashrath Tudu, and armed police personnel.
The suspect has been placed in judicial custody, and further investigations are ongoing. The incident has cast a deep shadow over the village, leaving the community in a state of mourning.
