Shimla, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Thakur Sukhvinder Sukhu, announced on Saturday that the Home Guard and Civil Defence teams successfully rescued 448 lives through approximately 708 search and rescue operations conducted in 2025.
The Chief Minister presided over a significant state-level event commemorating the 63rd raising day of the Home Guards and Civil Defence at Sarogheen in Shimla.
During the event, he extended his congratulations to the personnel of the Home Guards, Civil Defence, fire services, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), highlighting their remarkable contributions to the safety, security, and development of the state.
He noted that this year, the Home Guards and fire services executed 708 search and rescue operations, leading to the saving of 448 lives. “Their professional efficiency also played a crucial role in safeguarding properties worth Rs 2,000 crore from potential damage,” he stated.
Moreover, the Chief Minister announced that the department has successfully restored 1,035 water sources and water bodies, marking a commendable achievement.
CM Sukhu emphasized that the government is prioritizing women empowerment as part of its broader vision termed ‘Vyavastha Parivartan.’
He declared that women would soon be integrated into the fire services, with necessary amendments to recruitment rules forthcoming.
“Recruitment for the Home Guards will commence shortly,” he added.
Sukhu reiterated the government's commitment to fortifying the Home Guards and Civil Defence Department, announcing the establishment of four fire stations in Deha, Ubadesh, Nerwa, and Indora.
This year, 27 new fire tenders have been acquired, and 150 posts have been sanctioned to operate these units. The government has allocated Rs 55 crore under the Fire Services Modernisation Scheme, alongside advanced equipment worth Rs 6 crore provided to the SDRF, enhancing its operational capabilities.
“This includes drones for conducting aerial surveys, search operations, and monitoring disaster-prone areas, significantly enhancing preparedness and response capabilities,” he added.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the government has extended maternity leave benefits to women Home Guards, ensuring essential support and job security during maternity.
During the occasion, the Chief Minister launched the ‘Miracle of Mind’ mobile application, developed in collaboration with the Isha Foundation, aimed at bolstering efforts against drug abuse.
Earlier, Additional Director General Satwant Atwal Trivedi welcomed the Chief Minister and provided a detailed report on the department’s activities.
She reported that the Home Guards and fire services conducted nearly 11,000 mock drills and 3,000 awareness camps, training around two lakh citizens. Deputy Commandant General Arvind Parashar proposed the vote of thanks.
