New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) The rollout of 5G services has been successfully completed in all states and union territories (UTs) throughout the nation, with coverage currently reaching 99.9 percent of districts, as reported by government officials.
As of October 31, telecom service providers (TSPs) have deployed 5.08 lakh 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) across both rural and urban regions of the country.
The Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, noted that over 31 lakh BTSs have been established nationwide while addressing a question in the Rajya Sabha.
To enhance internet connectivity and minimize call drops in underserved locations, the government has launched multiple initiatives.
These initiatives include the BharatNet project aimed at delivering broadband connectivity to Gram Panchayats (GPs) and villages; a scheme for mobile services in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and Aspirational Districts; the 4G Saturation scheme to extend 4G mobile coverage to unserved villages; and the introduction of the GatiShakti Sanchar portal along with Right of Way (RoW) Rules for simplifying permissions and clearing the installation of telecom infrastructure.
The minister emphasized that both private and state-run service providers are responsible for deploying the telecom infrastructure.
Additionally, there is a collaboration between private and state-led service providers to share telecom infrastructure based on techno-commercial viability.
Meanwhile, seven specialized Working Groups established by the Centre under the Bharat 6G Alliance have shared their progress and future plans.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that technology, spectrum, devices, applications, and sustainability must align effectively to promote innovation.
He also mentioned the necessity of monthly joint reviews among working groups to ensure that advancements in one area lead to practical results in others. The minister highlighted that spectrum policy is crucial to India's 6G strategy and noted that India has already initiated significant spectrum refarming, with more anticipated.
