Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 3 (NationPress) The deployment of cutting-edge mobile networks in India has gained remarkable traction, with telecom providers establishing 5.08 lakh 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) nationwide by October 31, as reported to Parliament on Wednesday.
In a formal response to the Lok Sabha, Union Communication Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that this swift growth signifies the nation's ongoing efforts to fortify its digital infrastructure.
The government also highlighted substantial advancements in rural connectivity through the BharatNet initiative, which aspires to deliver high-speed broadband services to villages.
As of October 2025, 2.14 lakh Gram Panchayats are ready for service, and over 13.66 lakh Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections have been established, according to the minister.
Officials noted that these initiatives are instrumental in narrowing the digital divide between urban and rural areas by facilitating services like online education, telemedicine, and digital payments in remote regions.
To further reduce the digital gap, the Centre is launching numerous programs under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN).
These projects include expanding BharatNet to additional villages, enhancing mobile connectivity in regions affected by Left Wing Extremism, improving telecom access in aspirational districts, and bolstering mobile services in remote border territories.
“The government is also executing the 4G Saturation Scheme to guarantee that every uncovered village gains access to 4G connectivity,” Scindia added.
In Rajasthan, the expansion of telecom services is advancing on two fronts—5G deployment and rural mobile connectivity.
Telecom Service Providers have submitted the district-wise status of 5G installations to the government.
In addition, 1,409 mobile towers equipped with 4G technology have been erected under DBN-funded initiatives, providing mobile services to 1,684 rural villages across the state.
The Ministry stated that these collective endeavors aim to ensure that digital services reach every citizen, irrespective of their location, thereby bringing India closer to universal high-speed connectivity.
