Jaipur, Sep 15 (NationPress) A profound sense of sorrow has enveloped Phuliya Kala village in Shahpura (Bhilwara) following two devastating incidents occurring within a span of 24 hours. A family returning from Haridwar after partaking in the ritual of ashes immersion faced an unimaginable tragedy when they lost seven members in a catastrophic car crash in Jaipur.
Shortly thereafter, during the last rites of the deceased in Bhilwara, seven young individuals tragically drowned in the Khari river, resulting in the loss of two lives and one person still unaccounted for.
The first incident occurred early on September 14 on the Jaipur ring road near Shivdaspura.
A vehicle carrying the family of Ashok Vaishnav (47), a resident of Phuliya Kala, lost control due to speeding and fell 16 feet into a water-logged underpass. The victims included Ashok, his wife Seema Devi (45), their son Rohit (23), grandson Gajraj (6), along with Ramraj Vaishnav (38), his wife Madhu (36), and their 14-month-old son Rudra, all of whom perished instantly.
They were returning from Haridwar after performing the ashes immersion for Ashok's father, Gopal Vaishnav, who had passed away just a week prior.
On the morning of September 15, the remains of Ashok, Seema, Rohit, and Gajraj were brought back to their hometown.
Amidst profound sorrow, their cremation took place at the Dhaneshwar Road crematorium. Following this, as per tradition, numerous villagers went to bathe in the Khari river. Another tragedy struck when seven young men were swept away by the strong currents.
Local residents sprang into action, managing to rescue Vijay Pratap Singh (30), Mukesh Goswami (25), Rakesh (28), and Jivraj (30), albeit in critical condition.
Regrettably, Mahendra Mali (25) and Bardi Chand (34) lost their lives, while Mahesh (35) remains missing. Rescue operations continue with the assistance of divers. This double tragedy has left the village of Phuliya Kala in utter devastation.
In just a week, four generations of the Vaishnav family have been lost — from the passing of family patriarch Gopal Vaishnav to the death of his son, grandson, and great-grandson.
Villagers remember Ashok fondly as a temple priest at Dhaneshwar, while his son Rohit operated a small grocery store. Tragically, Rohit’s young son Gajraj also perished, but his twin sister and younger brother survived.
Now, Ashok’s elder son Pankaj, a farmer and taxi driver, stands as the sole provider for the shattered family. The entire village is engulfed in shock, mourning a tragedy of unimaginable proportions.
