Kabul, Dec 31 (NationPress) The counter-terrorism unit has successfully identified and seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition in the eastern region of Afghanistan's Khost province, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior Affairs on Wednesday.

This significant discovery, which included two rocket launchers, 15 hand grenades, 1,100 rounds of PK machine-gun ammunition, along with two boxes of assorted ammunition, 24 rocket rounds, and 24 rocket propellant charges, was made during a series of counter-terrorism operations conducted in the Zazi Maidan district, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

Authorities apprehended three suspects linked to this arms cache, and they will be handed over to judicial authorities after preliminary investigations.

In a separate initiative on Tuesday, police unearthed additional weapons and ammunition in the neighboring Paktika province, which is part of ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of unauthorized weapons.

Over the last four years, Afghan authorities have confiscated thousands of weapons and considerable amounts of ammunition in a nationwide campaign aimed at bolstering security and stability in this war-affected nation.

On November 30, local officials announced the discovery of another significant arms cache in Uruzgan province, which resulted in the arrest of three individuals connected to this incident.

According to provincial police spokesperson Bilal Uruzgani, the weapons were found concealed within a residential property and included a range of ammunition, hand grenades, rocket shells, bullets, and other military supplies.

Authorities have commenced additional investigations to identify other individuals who may be linked to this illegal arms cache.

On November 16, Mullah Ezatullah Haqqani, the provincial police spokesman, reported that police in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province seized a substantial cache of weapons and apprehended one suspect during a recent operation.

Haqqani detailed that the confiscated items comprised six Kalashnikov rifles, three hand grenades, a mortar launcher, an M16 assault rifle, a shotgun, and numerous other illegally stored military items.

These weapons were discovered in the Gereshk district, where police also arrested an individual suspected of involvement, who has since been transferred to custody for further investigation.
