Afghan Security Forces Uncover Massive Cache of Weapons and Ammunition

Kabul, Jan 3 (NationPress) Afghan security forces have uncovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in the Kunar and Nuristan provinces, as stated by the Ministry of Defence.
The seized weaponry comprises 49 Kalashnikovs, four rocket launchers, 29 rocket-propelled grenades, 66 hand grenades, a significant number of cartridges and bullets, along with other illegally stored military equipment, which were confiscated during a series of operations across various districts within these provinces, the statement elaborated.
No additional details were provided regarding the exact timing of the weaponry seizure, nor was there any confirmation about whether any arrests were made in relation to this incident.
On November 3, 2024, security forces operating in Afghanistan seized a considerable quantity of arms and ammunition in the eastern Khost province, according to a statement from the provincial police office.
The contraband included Kalashnikovs, rocket launchers, PK machine guns, grenades, and a large cache of ammunition, which was uncovered during a series of operations conducted throughout the province, as per the statement.
The statement did not clarify when the seized weapons and ammunition were discovered. However, six individuals were arrested on charges related to the possession of illegal arms and military equipment.
Similarly, on August 20, 2023, Afghan security forces seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition in Parwan Province, situated in eastern Afghanistan, an official disclosed.
Provincial administration spokesperson Sayed Hikmatullah Shamim reported that during operations in the Jabal Saraj district, 140 rounds of BM1 bullets, six boxes of M24, thousands of bullets, explosive devices, and other illegally held munitions were confiscated by the security forces.
In a comparable crackdown, weapon caches were also identified in Wardak Province.
Since taking control in August 2021, the Afghan caretaker government has confiscated thousands of arms and a considerable amount of ammunition as part of initiatives aimed at stabilizing the security landscape across the war-ravaged nation.
