Kabul, Aug 10 (NationPress) Afghan security forces have unearthed a significant cache of weapons and military gear in the eastern region of Paktia, as reported by the Ministry of Interior Affairs on Sunday.
The armaments were seized during a series of operations conducted on the periphery of Samkani and Ahmad Khil districts, according to the ministry.
Previously, on August 4, police in Afghanistan uncovered arms and ammunition, including a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG), in the western province of Farah, as stated in a news release from the provincial police office.
The seized weaponry comprised an AK-47, an RPG, four hand grenades, projectiles, and other military items found within a residence in the Khak-e-Safid district, the report detailed.
On July 27, Afghan security forces also discovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition in southern Uruzgan province, retrieving various arms alongside a considerable amount of ammunition.
Acting on a tip-off, security personnel executed an operation based on intelligence reports in Tirin Kot, the provincial capital of Uruzgan, uncovering weapons that included six AK-47 rifles, a heavy machine gun, PK machine guns, rocket launchers, and hundreds of hand grenades.
Furthermore, a considerable quantity of ammunition and military equipment was seized during these operations.
According to Xinhua news agency, two individuals were apprehended in relation to this case.
The Afghan interim government has confiscated thousands of arms and a large volume of ammunition in its endeavor to stabilize the security climate across the war-torn nation over the past three and a half years.
On July 24, police reported the discovery of around 200 pieces of both light and heavy firearms in eastern Paktia, as per the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA).
The weaponry, as reported by state media, included 97 Kalashnikovs, seven M16-type assault rifles, 86 stock pistols, seven rocket launchers, and numerous other types of arms and ammunition.
The official media outlet noted that the police asserted no one is entitled to possess or carry arms illegally.
In related operations, police also reported finding arms and ammunition, which included an anti-aircraft gun, in the northern province of Samangan.
