Kabul, July 27 (NationPress) The Afghan security forces have successfully located a significant cache of weapons and ammunition in the southern region of Uruzgan province. This operation led to the seizure of various types of arms alongside a considerable quantity of ammunition, as reported by the Ministry of Interior on Sunday.
Acting on intelligence tips, security personnel initiated an operation in Tirin Kot, the capital of Uruzgan province. They uncovered a range of weapons that included six AK-47 rifles, a heavy machine gun, PK machine guns, rocket launchers, and hundreds of hand grenades, according to the statement.
Moreover, a substantial amount of ammunition and military gear was confiscated during the operations, the report added.
In connection to this case, two individuals have been apprehended, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Over the last three and a half years, the Afghan interim government has successfully retrieved thousands of arms and a large quantity of ammunition as part of efforts aimed at stabilizing the security situation in the war-torn nation.
On July 24, police reported the discovery of approximately 200 pieces of both light and heavy firearms in Paktia province, eastern Afghanistan, as stated by the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA).
According to the state-owned media outlet, the weaponry includes 97 Kalashnikov rifles, seven M16-type assault rifles, 86 pistols, seven rocket launchers, and various other arms and ammunition.

In similar operations, police in Afghanistan's northern Samangan province reported the discovery of arms and ammunition, including an anti-aircraft gun.
On July 17, security forces in Afghanistan located a significant number of weapons and military equipment in Ghazni province, including 885 hand grenades, a local official stated.
This contraband included 52 different types of arms, 21 AK-27 Kalashnikovs, 21 pistols, two PK machine guns, 885 hand grenades, 15 rocket launchers, eight mortar shells, and a variety of war equipment, such as cartridges and bullets, as reported by Ezatullah Saeedi, the provincial government spokesman.
