What Happened with the Ahmedabad Plane Crash?

New Delhi, June 12 (NationPress) An Air India flight destined for London, carrying more than 200 passengers, tragically crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, prompting a significant emergency response. The accident unfolded near the Meghaninagar area of the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a direct conversation with the Minister of Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu, to assess the situation regarding the Air India flight crash.

The Minister informed the Prime Minister of his immediate departure to Ahmedabad to supervise the rescue and relief efforts.

The Prime Minister has instructed the Minister to ensure that all necessary assistance is provided promptly and requested regular updates on the evolving situation.

All relevant agencies are on high alert, and coordinated efforts are currently in progress.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu expressed profound shock over the accident. “I am devastated to hear about the flight crash in Ahmedabad. We are on the highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to act swiftly and in concert,” the minister posted on X.

He also stated that rescue teams were dispatched to the location. “Every effort is being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are provided immediately. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone on board and their families,” Kinjarapu mentioned.

Rammohan Naidu, who was in Vijayawada attending the NDA Government's first anniversary events, rushed to Ahmedabad as soon as he learned of the flight crash.

Treating the incident with utmost urgency, the Minister curtailed his engagements and is now on his way to oversee the situation personally. He is in continuous contact with senior officials from DGCA, AAI, NDRF, and the Gujarat State administration to guarantee a prompt, coordinated response.

Rescue and medical teams are active at the site. Passenger safety and emergency response remain the top priorities.

N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Air India, stated, “With deep sorrow, I confirm that Air India flight AI 171 operating from Ahmedabad to London-Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this devastating event.”

“At this moment, our primary focus is on supporting all affected individuals and their families. We are doing everything possible to assist the emergency response teams at the site and provide all necessary support and care to those impacted,” he added.

Dramatic visuals from the crash site depicted thick clouds of grey smoke rising into the sky, visible from several kilometers away, including parts of Vastrapur. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and confusion in the vicinity as emergency sirens rang out and local residents gathered at a distance.

Firefighters, local police, and emergency medical teams were among the first responders at the scene. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been deployed to assist in rescue and relief operations.
