Ahmedabad, Dec 24 (NationPress) In a significant crackdown on the city's narcotics network, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch along with the Special Operations Group (SOG) has executed a series of well-coordinated, intensive raids over the past week, leading to the registration of 21 criminal cases and the seizure of drugs worth over Rs 1 crore.

The collaborative operation, as stated by officials, signifies a zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking and use, targeting every segment of the illegal supply chain, from street vendors to financiers of the trade.

Authorities reported that 25 individuals, including major drug traffickers, were apprehended during this week-long initiative. Large amounts of narcotic substances, such as Mephedrone (MD), ganja, and charas, were confiscated during raids conducted at various locations throughout the city.

In a tactical evolution, investigators are now focusing on tracing narco-financial networks associated with the confiscated shipments.

Officials mentioned ongoing efforts to track money flows, pinpoint laundering pathways, and freeze assets derived from the drug trade. By disrupting the financial underpinnings of these syndicates, the authorities aim to thwart these criminal enterprises from re-establishing their operations.

Furthermore, police have shifted their focus from only targeting large-scale drug shipments.

Even minor quantities of narcotics are now being addressed to dismantle local distribution centers that propagate addiction and ensnare vulnerable youths at the grassroots, officials noted.

While reaffirming their commitment to stringent actions against drug distributors, the Crime Branch emphasized a compassionate approach towards individuals battling addiction. Authorities indicated that those genuinely struggling with addiction and seeking treatment will receive legal support.

Under Section 64A of the NDPS Act, addicts charged with offenses involving small amounts or consumption under Section 27 may receive immunity from prosecution if they voluntarily pursue medical treatment from a government-sanctioned de-addiction facility.

“Our goal is to make Ahmedabad drug-free. We are targeting the financial foundations of drug networks while providing a second chance to those wishing to escape addiction,” declared a senior official from the Crime Branch, encouraging families and individuals to seek rehabilitation.

The police have urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting any information concerning narcotics operations, assuring that all information will be handled confidentially and promptly.
