Has AIADMK Launched the ‘Booth Sevai’ App to Enhance Its Grassroots Strategy for the TN Assembly Polls?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 10 (NationPress) As political dynamics escalate in anticipation of the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the AIADMK has introduced a specialized digital platform aimed at enhancing its grassroots electoral strategy and voter engagement throughout the state.
The party has unveiled the ‘Booth Sevai’ mobile application, a comprehensive tool crafted for booth agents to efficiently manage voter data collection, monitor preferences, and coordinate activities on polling day.
This app has already been piloted in constituencies within Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts, with plans for phased expansion to additional districts, although specific timelines have not been disclosed by party officials.
As reported by AIADMK insiders, the platform's primary objective is to gain accurate insights into voter preferences at the local level, transitioning from traditional manual methods to a more streamlined digital approach.
A booth agent from Coimbatore, who preferred to remain anonymous, mentioned that each booth-level worker receives a unique username and password to access the application.
One notable feature, named ‘Voters in Family Group’, allows agents to categorize voters from the electoral roll into family units. Once organized, details like the family head’s name, street address, house number, and total household members are recorded within the app.
The application also permits agents to edit or modify these entries through an ‘Edit Family Group’ feature. Notably, it includes a section for documenting each voter’s preference, showcasing major political parties as choices.
“For example, if four members of a household support different parties, we can mark each preference individually. If someone’s choice is ambiguous, we seek input from close acquaintances. If uncertainty remains, we classify them as ‘undecided’.
Those selecting NOTA or who choose not to disclose their preference are categorized as ‘neutral’,” the agent clarified.
Senior officials from the party’s IT department stated that this initiative represents the first instance of AIADMK digitizing its booth operations on such a scale. Previously, data collection and surveys were conducted manually, including during the last Lok Sabha elections.
The application will also facilitate the digital generation of booth slips, which can be printed on-the-go using portable mini printers provided to booth agents — a strategy the party anticipates will enhance efficiency and foster last-mile voter engagement on election day.
