Tamil Nadu Elections: Voter Slip Distribution Kicks Off Today Ahead of April 23 Polls
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 12 (NationPress) The Election Commission is set to initiate the distribution of voter identification slips, known as booth slips, across Tamil Nadu starting Sunday. This action is a crucial step in the lead-up to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.
Polling Level Officers (PLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits to hand out these slips directly to voters, ensuring that every eligible individual is well-informed and ready for polling day.
Officials have also been granted permission to enlist help from authorized representatives of political parties to expedite the distribution process.
In total, approximately 5.73 crore voters throughout Tamil Nadu are anticipated to receive their booth slips at least five days prior to polling, as required by the Election Commission. This initiative is designed to enhance voter awareness, minimize last-minute confusion, and facilitate a more seamless voting experience.
In a significant update, the Commission has rolled out a new design for this election's booth slips. These slips include critical information such as the voter’s part number, serial number, and polling station number, which simplifies identification at polling centers. Additionally, they feature a QR code that provides access to further digital resources.
Meanwhile, comprehensive arrangements have been made statewide to manage this large-scale electoral event.
A total of 4,023 candidates are competing across 234 constituencies, indicating a fiercely competitive political environment.
To ensure convenience and efficiency, the Election Commission has established 75,097 polling booths, including supplementary stations.
Although the standard guideline allows for up to 1,200 voters per polling station, the average has now been adjusted to around 756 voters per booth following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Officials assert that this change will help reduce overcrowding and wait times.
For the polling process, 75,064 personnel have been deployed throughout the state, with each polling station assigned a dedicated Polling Level Officer.
With the distribution of booth slips set to commence and logistical preparations underway, election authorities are prioritizing maximum voter participation and a transparent, smooth polling experience across Tamil Nadu.
