Chennai, March 8 (NationPress) The Election Department of Tamil Nadu has taken an important step by redeploying 1,249 personnel from various government sectors to bolster preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to address the rising administrative and logistical demands anticipated in the lead-up to the elections.

According to officials, this redeployment is part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which is designed to ensure that voter lists are current and free from errors prior to the elections.

The Election Department has initiated several preparatory measures, including assessing polling station facilities, organizing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and enhancing election management frameworks across the state.

Officials indicated that the workload for the Election Department is expected to increase significantly once the Election Commission officially announces the election schedule. To facilitate a seamless electoral process, the state government has opted to temporarily create 1,249 additional positions and deploy personnel from various departments to assist election officials.

The personnel reassigned will handle a variety of tasks related to the electoral process, such as coordinating polling station setups, managing the distribution and storage of EVMs, executing voter awareness campaigns, and ensuring effective communication between district election offices and the state headquarters.

Officials will also play a crucial role in enforcing the Model Code of Conduct once it is implemented, which includes overseeing political activities, preventing the defacement of public property with posters or banners, and ensuring strict compliance with electoral regulations by political parties and candidates.

Another priority for the additional staff will be to promote voter awareness. The Election Department plans to enhance efforts aimed at encouraging citizens to verify their names on the electoral rolls and actively participate in the democratic process.

According to government directives, the temporary posts will remain in place from the date of appointment until June 30, covering the entire duration necessary for election preparation, polling arrangements, and subsequent administrative tasks.

The personnel will be deployed in various districts, including key urban and administrative hubs such as Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Kancheepuram, and Villupuram.

Election officials believe that this additional workforce is set to significantly enhance the state's electoral machinery, ensuring that the Assembly elections are conducted smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
