Bengaluru, July 16 (NationPress) The Advisory Council of the OBC Department of the AICC has put forth three significant resolutions after two rounds of discussions held in Bengaluru. The meeting was led by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who revealed the resolutions.
The council has decided to initiate a robust nationwide campaign advocating for a caste census, the removal of the 50 per cent cap on reservations, and the extension of reservations to private educational institutions.
In a press conference, CM Siddaramaiah emphasized that the campaign aims to call for a national-level Caste Census by the Census Commission of India, officially recognized as the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India (ORGI).
The census should comprehensively cover Social, Economic, Educational, Employment, and Political aspects of every individual and caste, using the Telangana State (SEEEP Caste Survey) as a model, as stated by the CM.
The second resolution aims to dismantle the 50 per cent cap on reservations, thereby ensuring adequate representation for OBCs in education, employment, politics, and beyond. The third resolution seeks to advocate for reservations in Private Educational Institutes as per Article 15(5) of the Constitution, CM Siddaramaiah noted.
During the press briefing, he also presented the 'Bengaluru Declaration' following the OBC Advisory Council Meeting.
The Bengaluru Declaration expressed gratitude to Nyaya Yoddha Rahul Gandhi ji for his unwavering commitment to Social Justice for marginalized communities and his support for the Backward Classes.
“Rahul ji’s determination compelled the Manuwadi Modi Government to concede to the rightful demand for a Caste Census in India. The council extends its deepest appreciation on behalf of all Backward Classes for this landmark achievement,” the declaration stated.
“While this is a significant milestone, it also serves as a reminder that the journey toward social justice, as envisioned in our Constitution, continues. Under the steadfast leadership of our Nyaya Yodha Rahul Gandhiji, India is on the path to realizing the ultimate goal of social transformation for an equitable society,” the declaration concluded.
“We vow to persist in our quest for Justice for all, proudly bearing the Congress Party flag under the courageous leadership of Nyaya Yoddha Rahul Gandhi ji. Suggestions for additional points are welcome,” the declaration remarked.
