New Delhi, Aug 15 (NationPress) The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has decided to communicate to the Supreme Court the worries of the Indian Super League (ISL) clubs and players concerning the postponed start of the 2025-26 season. This delay results from a conflict over the renewal of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) with Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL).
As the top court examines the matter, the AIFF has postponed the signing of the MRA, referencing the Supreme Court's observations, which have consequently led FSDL to put the ISL's 2025-26 season on hold.
On Thursday, the AIFF facilitated a meeting between its legal team and ISL clubs to address the issue, during which it was agreed to present the concerns of ISL clubs and players to the Supreme Court.
"A meeting was conducted between the legal representatives of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Indian Super League (ISL) clubs on Thursday, August 14, 2025. All parties consented that the challenges faced by ISL clubs due to the delay in starting the 2025-26 ISL season, along with the difficulties experienced by players and other stakeholders, will be presented to the Hon'ble Supreme Court next week for its consideration," the AIFF stated on Instagram.
Recently, the AIFF indicated that the Supreme Court's observations have caused delays in the MRA with FSDL, which has halted the approaching ISL season. The national football body mentioned its efforts to renew the MRA, but the agreement could not be finalized due to the Supreme Court's hold.
"According to the Master Rights Agreement, the All India Football Federation had initially begun negotiations for renewal with FSDL on November 21, 2024. Following this, senior officials from both AIFF and FSDL held meetings on February 5, 2025, in New Delhi and again on March 5, 2025, in Mumbai, to discuss the terms for the MRA's renewal," the AIFF added in a statement.
Nevertheless, in a letter to the participating clubs, which IANS has obtained, FSDL stated they are compelled to suspend the ISL 2025-26 season because they are "unable to effectively plan, organize, or commercialize the 2025–26 ISL season" due to the lack of an agreement regarding the MRA, which is set to expire on December 8, 2025, with AIFF.
FSDL claimed that the MRA with AIFF will terminate "approximately one-third of the way through a typical ISL season, which spans from September to April," as the national federation has not provided a definitive response to the renewal proposal.
