Ahmedabad, March 26 (NationPress) The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has confiscated more than 260 kg of paneer valued at Rs 65,400 from various dairy establishments throughout the city of Gujarat.

An official indicated that inspections, carried out between March 24 and March 26 under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, also resulted in the suspension of 230 kg of paneer worth Rs 72,700 due to health concerns.

The inspections were executed by the Food Division of AMC’s Health Department, overseen by Additional Health Officer Bhavin Joshi and the Designated Officer.

“The operations were aimed at ensuring adherence to food safety standards among businesses involved in paneer and dairy products,” he stated.

The official also mentioned that the confiscated stock comprised 144 kg of paneer valued at Rs 34,560 from Satnam Dairy Products located on Nikol Gam Road and 119 kg worth Rs 30,840 from Paneer Warehouse in Vastral.

In contrast, the suspended stock included 188 kg of paneer valued at Rs 58,700 from Shri Krishna Dairy in Gota, 11 kg worth Rs 3,500 from Vijay Dairy in Jivraj Park, and 35 kg of medium-fat paneer valued at Rs 10,500 from Dairy Rich Ice Cream in Gota.

Moreover, on March 25, AMC closed an unlicensed paneer manufacturing facility at Vasanti Women’s Home Industry in Ramol after identifying unsafe production practices that posed significant public health risks.

The AMC’s Food Department has declared its intention to persist with rigorous food safety inspections across Ahmedabad.

The department noted that the upcoming phase of inspections will focus on ice cream, lassi, mango juice, sugarcane juice, packaged drinking water, sweets, snacks, baked goods, chocolates, edible oils, and ready-to-eat foods.

“Establishments like hotels and restaurants will be subjected to stringent evaluations, with substantial fines and closures for those operating without proper licenses or registrations,” the department remarked.

In recent months, Gujarat has seen numerous instances of contaminated paneer being confiscated by food safety officials, underscoring a considerable public health issue. In February 2025, the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) conducted a raid on Dwarkesh Dairy Products in Ahmedabad's Kubernagar area, seizing 1,500 kilograms of tainted paneer along with palm oil and industrial-grade acetic acid used in its production.

The confiscated items were appraised at Rs 3.15 lakh, and samples were taken for further analysis.

Similarly, in Rajkot, the FDCA seized suspected adulterated dairy products worth Rs 9 lakh, including 1,310 kilograms of paneer and 2,000 liters of milk. These products were believed to contain vegetable oil adulteration and were produced in unsanitary conditions, resulting in their voluntary destruction by the trader.
