Jammu, Sep 1 (NationPress) On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a visit to the Tawi Bridge and Bikram Chowk in Jammu city to evaluate the flood damage before conducting an aerial survey of affected areas.
Accompanying him were J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, and other senior officials as they assessed the flood situation at the Tawi Bridge and Bikram Chowk.
The Tawi Bridge sustained significant damage during the recent floods. The Home Minister interacted with relevant officials to understand the current situation.
Additionally, HM Shah evaluated the flood impact in Bikram Chowk and nearby regions.
He plans to conduct an aerial assessment of the flood damage in Kishtwar district and at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine route, where devastating cloudbursts and landslides occurred on August 14 and August 26, leading to a tragic loss of lives.
Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening, where he was welcomed at the Jammu Airport by L-G Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah, among others.
Also present were Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, DG BSF Daljit Singh Chaudhary, and senior officials from agencies such as NHAI, IMD, and various security organizations.
The Union Home Minister announced the formation of inter-ministerial central teams (IMCTs) to evaluate the damage caused by recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
He will also review the damage to fencing and border posts along the International Border with Pakistan.
According to the MHA statement, "The MHA is coordinating with senior officers from these States/UT, providing necessary logistical support through the deployment of teams from the NDRF, Army, and Air Force helicopters to assist in search and rescue operations and restore essential services."
The statement further emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government stands firmly with states affected by natural disasters to alleviate the hardships endured by the populace.
The IMCTs will conduct on-the-ground assessments of the situation and the relief efforts made by the State/UT governments. Amit Shah is expected to meet some affected families and visit flood-hit areas in Jammu.
