Guwahati/New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah has voiced strong criticism against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for his derogatory comparison of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and RSS to a ‘poisonous snake’, asserting that the Congress party is descending to shameful depths to ‘humiliate India’.

Speaking at a significant election rally in Patharkandi, located in Assam’s Sribhumi district, Shah expressed concern that the Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, is emerging as a threat to the nation. He described Kharge’s venomous rhetoric as a peril to democracy.

“On April 9, the citizens of Assam must deliver a strong rebuttal to the Congress party. It is vital that they push the party to the fringes in the forthcoming elections,” Shah urged, eliciting enthusiastic applause from the audience.

He further emphasized that the BJP administration in Assam has already pinpointed infiltrators and is committed to removing them one by one.

The ‘poisonous snake’ comment originated from Kharge's speech at a public gathering in Kerala, where he urged the need to 'crush' the BJP and RSS.

In reaction to this statement, the BJP expressed outrage, condemning Kharge's remarks as incendiary. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accused the Congress leader of provoking violence against BJP and RSS members, especially in light of Kharge’s incendiary comments made during an event for a minority community.

Poonawala labeled the INC as the “Indian Jihadi Congress”, asserting that the party has reached a new low with such dangerous and undemocratic language.

He also called for the Election Commission to take action against Kharge's inflammatory remarks.

This political controversy escalates following Kharge's earlier disparaging comments about Gujaratis, referring to them as ‘illiterates’ during his campaign in Kerala, which drew widespread backlash from BJP leaders.

In response to Kharge’s remarks, Shah stated, “The Congress president declared that Gujarat and other BJP-supporting states are illiterate. The Congress, which disparages Gujarat—a state that has produced prominent leaders like Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Vikram Sarabhai, and Modi ji—will undoubtedly face consequences from the citizens.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel vehemently objected to Kharge's statement, asserting that anti-Gujarat sentiment is ingrained in the Congress party's DNA and demanded a formal apology.

Kharge has suggested that individuals in the southern region are “educated and clever” and are not susceptible to being misled, unlike those in Gujarat.

Point of View

The exchange between Amit Shah and Mallikarjun Kharge highlights the escalating tensions in Indian politics as both parties prepare for critical elections. The rhetoric used is reflective of deeper ideological divides, underscoring the need for a nuanced understanding of the implications for democracy.
