Ahmedabad, Jan 23 (NationPress) A serious incident occurred when an Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) bus collided with three other vehicles near the Gota Ceramic Market on Friday, resulting in two injuries and significant damage to the involved vehicles, as reported by officials.
Officials from AMTS stated that the bus was allegedly traveling at a high speed and lost control near a crowded intersection close to the ceramic market.
The bus first collided with a school van, then struck an autorickshaw and a truck tempo, creating a domino effect.
The front of the school van was heavily damaged, and the truck tempo overturned into a nearby construction pit.
Witnesses described the incident as alarming and raised concerns about road safety in the vicinity.
“Fortunately, there were no children in the school van at the time, preventing fatalities. The passengers and children in the van were unharmed. AMTS will arrange for the repair of the tempo involved in the collision,” stated a senior official.
Local residents noted that the bus driver seemed to have lost control while other vehicles were changing lanes near the intersection.
Videos circulating on social media depicted the bus speeding just before the collisions.
The drivers of the school van and the autorickshaw suffered serious injuries and were promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Traffic police and AMTS staff quickly responded to the scene, clearing the roadway and restoring traffic flow shortly thereafter.
In light of the incident, AMTS has implemented disciplinary actions.
“A notice has been issued to the operator, and the driver has been suspended immediately,” an official confirmed.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has also levied a fine of Rs 50,000 on the bus operator, Chartered Speed Company, for breaching operational standards, including speed limits.
Similar incidents involving AMTS buses have been reported in recent months.
