Andhra Pradesh Collaborates with NRSC to Enhance Lightning Safety Measures
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, April 15 (NationPress) The National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) has partnered with the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) to enhance lightning alert systems and reduce fatalities caused by lightning across the state.
This partnership aims to bolster community readiness and enhance current response frameworks to cultivate a more robust disaster management structure in Andhra Pradesh.
As stated in an official announcement, this agreement will enable both entities to identify lightning-prone regions and carry out comprehensive risk evaluations. By targeting the areas with the highest incidence of lightning, they intend to develop effective prevention measures and fortify statewide safety protocols.
A major emphasis will be placed on refining early warning systems to deliver timely and precise notifications to citizens before lightning events occur.
The agreement was signed by Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the APSDMA, and Dr. Aparna, Deputy Director of NRSC.
Prakhar Jain remarked that under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the state government has made a pivotal decision to systematically reduce the number of lightning-related deaths, particularly in rural areas.
The MoU was formalized on Wednesday at the APSDMA headquarters, with the intent to support the government of Andhra Pradesh in minimizing casualties and property damage from lightning strikes.
The program was attended by APSDMA Executive Director K. Kouser Bano and NRSC experts including Muvva Venkata Ramana, Alok Taori, Satyanarayana, and Venkatesh, alongside numerous disaster management officials.
During a review meeting last week, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials to utilize advanced technology for preemptive alerts to prevent fatalities associated with lightning.
He emphasized that alerts should extend beyond mobile notifications, urging the activation of field personnel and the establishment of network-based alerts to inform individuals in specific tower coverage areas about imminent lightning threats.
