Forecast of Intense Rainfall for Coastal Regions of Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati, Dec 24 (NationPress) A significant amount of rainfall is anticipated in coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next two days as a result of the low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal, meteorological experts have indicated.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that a well-defined low-pressure area is situated over Southwest and nearby Westcentral Bay of Bengal. It is predicted to approach the southwest Bay of Bengal near the northern coast of Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh by Tuesday.

There is currently uncertainty regarding whether the low-pressure system will strengthen or diminish in the forthcoming hours. The coastal area remains overcast while cool winds are blowing.

The IMD has stated that light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is very likely to occur in several locations, with isolated areas experiencing heavy rainfall from December 24 to December 26 in coastal Andhra Pradesh and on December 24 and 25 in Rayalaseema.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has warned that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in isolated spots across Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore districts.

Also, light to moderate rain is expected in isolated locations within YSR, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.

The Disaster Management Authority has urged residents to stay vigilant due to the forecast of heavy rainfall.

Strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 55 km/h, are predicted along the coast, prompting authorities to advise fishermen to refrain from going to sea until Wednesday.

Warning signal number three has been raised at the ports of Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Nizampatnam, and Krishnapatnam.

In the meantime, the Collectors of the coastal districts have instructed officials in coastal villages to implement all necessary preventive measures to safeguard lives and reduce potential damages. Officials are advised to monitor low-lying areas closely.
