Amaravati, April 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, declared on Tuesday that the Andhra Pradesh Fire and Disaster Management Department will be transformed into a benchmark for other states across the nation.
During a ceremony at parade grounds, he launched newly procured advanced fire tenders and equipment.
As part of a modernization project with an investment of Rs 252.93 crore, the government has rolled out new vehicles and tools worth Rs 33.25 crore.
In the initial phase, the state has acquired 25 advanced fire tenders for Rs 18 crore, 40 Quick Response Vehicles featuring high-pressure pumps for Rs 10 crore, 50 inflatable rubber boats for Rs 2.49 crore, and 30 Breathing Apparatus set compressors for Rs 2.08 crore.
While addressing the attendees after the vehicle launch, the Chief Minister underscored that the primary focus must be on saving lives.
He highlighted the urgency for the Fire Department to be equipped with cutting-edge technology and tools to effectively manage the challenges arising from the development of Amaravati as the state capital and the proliferation of high-rise structures.
He instructed officials to bolster the department by leveraging both central schemes and state funding, ensuring it is prepared to handle various emergency situations.
Participants at the event included Home Minister V. Anitha, local MLA Sravan Kumar, Fire Services Director General P. V. Ramana, Home Department Principal Secretary Kumar Vishwajit, and senior police officials.
Previously, during a review meeting, the Chief Minister urged officials to implement the latest technologies to alert citizens proactively, thereby preventing fatalities caused by lightning.
He insisted that alerts should extend beyond mobile notifications, advocating for the activation of field staff and network-based alerts to inform residents within specific tower locations about potential lightning threats.
On the subject of road safety, the Chief Minister expressed that preventive strategies should be prioritized over strict enforcement, emphasizing the importance of public education.
He reiterated the necessity of enhancing awareness regarding helmet use and adherence to traffic regulations.
